SONIC KINGDOM: THE BAND

KELVIN HALLORAN:

Whilst recognised as a singer with an enormous vocal range in cover bands, a frustrated Kelvin Halloran purchased his first guitar approximately 15 years ago and started to write his own songs. Now, regarded as a prolific songwriter with over 40 songs to his credit, Kelvin admits to never having a guitar lesson.

“That’s the way I like it, I want to be original, I play by shapes and sounds, I’m not interested in what key I’m playing in, and love the creativity and freedom of writing my own music. I get my inspiration from the world we live in. Good, bad, vile and often contentious. I write songs that are not PINK and FLUFFY!, but with content that might smack you in the face with meaning.

I’ve played my music at many festivals and love the connection with the audience. it isn’t something I have to do, it’s something that drives me and helps me, it’s the power of music. I now have a fabulous band that thinks the same as me and we are having fun and working hard.

LARS MULLEN:

As a teenager, opening up for the likes of Rory Gallagher, Free, Family, Slade, Hawkwind, Status Quo, Eric Clapton and so many more was the turning point.

As a very experienced musician himself, David started playing before the age of five. Initially self-taught, he also studied with the respected Exeter based drum teacher Steve Crossen and joined his first band Tyrant aged just 14, before moving on to the local super group Malaki in 1980.

Over the years he’s been involved in a host of different projects, which included forming NOTA with Kelvin Halloran, whilst also enjoying long-term success with Torbay’s original hair-metal band Mad Hatter.

As a youngster, Stephen Slade was fascinated by the low-end weighty utterance of the bass guitar, taking up the instrument in his early teens.

Having a wide musical taste and over the years, been inspired by some of the bass giants within jazz, jazz fusion, blues and rock, Stephen can effortlessly adapt to a host of musical styles, and has often been first call to perform with a host of cover and tribute bands.

Whilst often seen and heard shaking the foundations with his flagship 6 string bass, playing intricate chord shapes and complex solos, Stephen has the uncanny knack of just knowing when to step forward with creative fills or hold back, to be the solid foundation.

“Nothing beats performing to a live audience, and whilst playing original music is always a challenge, performing in Sonic Kingdom with musicians where we are all confident to write and deliver our own music, with passion and emotion is a joy in itself.
